Missions end with one of three conditions, each of which results in a particular base score value…
You destroy all enemy ships in the galaxy — Your mission is complete and you receive a base score commensurate with your fighting skill.
You abort a mission before completing it — You have failed the Star Command and everyone in the galaxy, but at least your Starfighter is intact and can be used by another Star Ranger with more guts, who can carry on the fight. You receive a smaller base score for this.
You and your ship are destroyed — The galaxy will fall to the Lans-trinzini, and your base score point value will reflect this failure.
Added to your base score is an achievement score, which is based on the following factors:
- The amount of energy you consumed during your mission
- The number and type of enemy ships destroyed
- The amount of time it took to fly the mission
- The number of starbases or fuelbases destroyed
Energy. You receive higher scores for consuming less energy during the mission. Your ship’s life-support system consumes a small amount of energy and cannot be turned off, but other systems are very energy-hungry and can be switched off when not needed to save energy! Some examples of energy use include:
- Shields
- Computer
- Tracking
- Engines
- Weapons
Enemy Ships. Each enemy ship destroyed contributes to your score. Unshielded light fighters are worth 300 points, medium fighters 600 points, heavy fighters 800 points, “Ghost” ships 1000 points and the deadly “Demon” class ships 1200 points.
Time. Completing your mission in less time will award more bonus points.
Starbase/Fuelbase Losses. Points are subtracted for allowing starbases or fuelbases to fall to the enemy.
Your final score is used to determine your rating and class. The ranks are as follows:
At mission’s end you will receive a report with your score and rating, with a class from 5 (lowest) to 1 (highest) indicating your position within that rating.
The highest rating awarded is Star Ranger, Class 1. There is no upper limit to the score value – using energy efficiently by turning off your ship systems or using less time by completing missions faster will increase your score dramatically!
